Biography in Brief

Rick PhillipsRick Phillips, a veteran of two decades of sales and management, discovered several years ago that much of the training being offered in American business was at best inadequate or woefully misplaced. "People are still taught to memorize words and techniques...instead of understanding the principles. Principles are constants that don’t change."

At a time when much of professional speaking has become a monologue of overemphasized buzz words and monotone generalities, Rick addresses vital issues of your group, often cutting to the core of problems with a skill shared by few others who approach the podium. Rick’s experience in marketing and management helps him provide clients with vital high content programs that feature meaningful step-by-step methods for enhancing the bottom line.

Rick helps people set new expectations for themselves and establish non-punitive "zero tolerance" for mediocrity within the organizations they lead.

Rick is recognized by his peers. He has been a featured speaker at the international convention for the American Society for Training and Development. He is a past winner of the ASTD Training Program Design Award. Rick has received Toastmasters International’s highest earned honor being named Distinguished Toastmaster and was a featured presenter at their international convention. He is also a member of the National Speakers Association, served as president of the Louisiana Chapter and has been named Chapter Member of the Year.

He has served on the board of directors of organizations in Louisiana and Texas and was a founding board member of International Center for Customer Service Studies. An organization formed to examine the effects of customer service and develop workable systems for small to medium businesses. Rick also sat on the board of the Center for Effective Leadership, a group of internationally recognized consultants, pooling their talents to increase individual effectiveness for clients. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu and his Masters Degree from Central Michigan University.

Among Rick's clients are: International Food Service Distributors Assn., American Lubricants, International Management Executives Council, Cooper Power, Louisiana Life Underwriters, State Farm Insurance, Minnesota Mutual Insurance, Monsanto Corporation, IBM, Prudential Bache, Honeywell Protection Services, DuPont Corporation, IDS American Express, Chevron, Hilton Hotels, Mississippi Power, Louisiana Power and Light, Louisiana Gas, Farmland Industries, Tidewater Compression, Standard Motor Products and many others. In the academic world he has lectured or presented programs for Duke University, University of Virginia, Brigham Young, Tulane, Clemson and others.
